1937 University of Illinois Homecoming Pin. In 1913, the University of Illinois hired Bob Zuppke as its head football coach, a position that would yield four National Championships for the Illini during his 29-year career. Zuppke will be always regarded as having a prominent football IQ -- he is credited with the invention of such football innovations as the huddle, the flea-flicker, the screen pass, the pass block, the long snap, and a new defensive position now known as "linebacker." Here we offer a pin for the Bob Zuppke Homecoming Game against the University of Michigan on October 30, 1937. Pin measures 3" across and is styled to be in the shape of a football. One blue and one red ribbon hang down 7" below the pin, which remains remarkably intact and lacks any major detractors from condition.
