    Description

Mid-1930's Curly Lambeau Signed Letter Archive. Collection of correspondence derives from the Zud Schammel estate, and includes two letters bearing authentic signatures from the legendary Lambeau, and a third signed secretarially. The authentic specimens date from mid-February of 1934 and 1935 respectively, and are signed "Curly Lambeau," and just "Curly." The earlier letter reads "Dear 'Zud:' I have been expecting your signed contract every day, but at the present have not heard from you. I should like very much to have your signature and will promise not to give any publicity until I have your permission." The right edge of the paper is missing, evidently torn off when Schammel opened the envelope, though no text is affected. The second letter asks for advice, reading in part, "In your opinion, are there any boys leaving Iowa that should be good prospects?" The third letter, signed by Lambeau's secretary, discusses the upcoming 1934 schedule. Also included are two unsigned pages from the Packers, one dated May 22, 1937 on team letterhead discussing expected fitness level when reporting to camp, while the second from July 7, 1934 lists the schedule for the season and names of players expected to report, including Schammel and Hall of Famer Clarke Hinkle. Finally, a July 14, 1937 letter to Schammel from the sports editor of the Green Bay Press-Gazette welcomes Schammel to the Packers and asks for an exclusive interview. Original mailing envelope is included. All pages are in fine condition, with the single exception of the 1934 Lambeau letter noted earlier. All signatures are 10/10. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
