    Description

Late 1920's Executioner Style Leather Football Helmet. In the highly populated category of vintage football helmet collecting, "Executioner" style examples are unquestionably considered the "Holy Grail." A true piece of football history, this amazing style lid basically represents the origin of the facemask. While the gridiron battles seen by this historic sports treasure must be left to the imagination, we can presume that it was worn by a college or professional football team, due to the adult size and red-dyed shell. The Pottsville Maroons? Perhaps. Helmet shows heavy wear, but displays splendidly, as the noseguard portion is actually formed by a factory instituted bent metal plate that is covered with leather. There are no manufacturer markings visible, but we are confident that it is all original and an exceptional representation of the popular helmet style that appears very seldom at auction.
