Description
Circa 1979-81 John Matuszak Game Worn Oakland Raiders Helmet. One of the most highly recognized "Bad Boys" of the National Football League, John Matuszak possessed the extreme, and sometimes reckless, qualities that would only be suitable for a player in the silver and black. A prolific defensive end on the field, who could dominate his opponents at will, Matuszak was also a successful actor off the field. In his most famous role, the Milwaukee native will forever be remembered as deformed "Sloth" in the movie "The Goonies." In 1989 at the young age of 38, Matuszak's crazy ways got the best of him, as he died of a drug overdose.From a brighter time in the Missouri Tampa alum's life, here we offer his silver and black shell, circa 1979-81, with the proper "72" decals are on the back and 1970's Riddell double-low-hookup chinstrap. Also, the interior includes original wafer padding, leather jaw pads, and time clock dated to 8/78. Furthermore, the original red dot cage is present but only partially attached on the top with two retro clips. Exhibiting heavy wear throughout, it is one of few authentic Matuszak shells ever to hit the hobby.
The first overall pick of the 1973 NFL Draft, the six-foot-eight Tooz was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Oakland Raiders. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
