Description

1973 Deacon Jones Game Worn & Signed Pro Bowl Helmet. A half a century later and many old quarterbacks still see visions of 'ol No. 75 in their nightmares. From the "Fearsome Foursome" leader who coined the term "sack," and who would have retired with the number one ranking in NFL history had that statistic been recognized during his career, this red AFC helmet was worn by Deacon Jones in the Pro Bowl on January 21, 1973, at Texas Stadium.

An extremely unique piece, it is actually Jones' San Diego Chargers helmet (where he played 1972-73) that was painted red to make it into the AFC Pro Bowl style shell. Exhibiting heavy wear throughout, it is notated properly inside with Jones' No. 75 written in black marker, "Deacon #75" written on athletic tape and "Deacon Jones" on blue Dymotape.

Interior padding remains intact, as does its chinstrap, while its lineman's cage is detached from the clips. Signed by Jones in light felt-tip marker, is a magnificent piece representing arguably the best defensive player in NFL history. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
