1971 Charley Taylor Game Worn & Signed Washington Redskins Helmet. An eight-time Pro Bowler, the 1964 NFL Rookie of the Year, member of the NFL 1960's All-Decade Team, and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Charley Taylor retired as the NFL's all-time receptions leader.

Presented here is Taylor's yellow Redskins helmet with the encircled "R" feather logo on each side. Instituted by the Great Vince Lombardi during his brief tenure in Washington, the style was only used in 1970 and 1971 and is considered extremely rare.

The Riddell-made, spherical, bubble-eared RK2 model helmet has a white impregnated shell with yellow outer paint and a single maroon center stripe. Like most of his teammates during the 1960's, Taylor favored this model. The size 7 1/8, two-inch interior, and twelve-point suspension webbing all fall within the proper parameters for a Taylor gamer. Also featured inside are a rubber crown donut, leather jaw pads (of the rare, small variety), cream-colored snubber, headband, and a customized back neck support pad (which Taylor, and fellow receiver Homer Jones, popularized). A gray, one-bar face mask is present with its original housing. Taylor also wore a two-bar face mask during this period but the one-bar is the scarcer variety. Above the right ear hole is a "1971" timeclock which suggests that the helmet was worn during the 1971 season. Linking the helmet to Taylor is his number "42" which appears on the back of the helmet in a wide-spaced format. The burgundy hue of these numerals, and 1 1/2" plain rounded block font, are both correct for the player and period.

Overall, the exemplar exhibits light to medium use, which is expected for a wide receiver. It is inscribed and signed "#42 My Skins "R" Gamer. Charley Taylor, HOF 84." Originated from one of Taylor's hometown friends. A museum quality piece worn by a top-tier Hall of Famer. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
