Description
1940's Minnesota Golden Gophers Multi Signed Leather Helmet - With Bruce Smith! Without question, serious Heisman Trophy signature collectors will agree that aside from the elusive Nile Kinnick, Bruce Smith is by far the toughest signature to obtain from the category of prestigious collegiate football award winners. A true hero on and off the field, Smith served during World War II as a United States fighter pilot, and also spent time with select groups of military All-Star squads while in the service. He was a key part on the Minnesota Gophers back-to-back National Championship squad of 1940 and 1941, and briefly played in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams.
Presented here is a NM "Hutch H-18" leather football helmet signed in Mint ink by Smith and additional Gopher stars of the 1930's and '40's. Eight signatures in all, the additional keys include: Dick Wildung, Joe Lauterbach, Bob Sweiger, Bob Bjorklund and others. The first leather helmet we've seen signed by Bruce Smith, and most likely the last. Extremely rare gridiron treasure! Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
