1963 NFL Championship Game Used, Multi Signed Football - Documented Final Point Ball Caught by Fan! One of the most unforgettable National Football League Championship Games in history, the '63 contest between the New York Giants and Chicago Bears ended in a thrilling 14-10 win for the home Chicago Bears squad and it marked the franchise's last championship before the team defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl XX. In front of nearly 46,000 Wrigley Field fans, the game will also go down as one of the most frigid in championship game history.

For lifelong Bears fan, George "Dutch" Geiger couldn't have imagined the day could have been any more splendid than to watch his team defeat the Big Apple powerhouse on the league's biggest stage. But making the day even more amazing for Geiger was the fact that he caught the football kicked by the Bears' Bob Jencks for the final point of the game. The extra point came after a one-yard drive by Bears quarterback Bill Wade, and it resulted in the game-winning score for the Windy City squad.

"We were sitting in the north end zone when the ball was kicked, I jumped up to catch it with everyone else around me," said Geiger in a newspaper article written years after the contest. "The ball came through the uprights - they didn't have nets then - and I grabbed it. I fell back down into a mass of humanity ," added Geiger. "I was hanging onto the ball for dear life. I had a big, heavy coat on and I stuck it under the coat for safe-keeping."

Geiger, who was probably the luckiest fan at Wrigley that faithful day, had the monumental pigskin professionally painted with the following notation "1963 N.F.L. Championship, Bears 14 - Giants 10." In addition, the ball was later signed by Bears Hall of Famer, and key player of the '63 team, Mike Ditka, in addition to teammates Johnny Morris, Ed O'Bradovich, Bob Wetoska, Rudy Bukich and Billy Martin. "Wilson" Thorp Sporting Goods "The Duke" football exhibits moderate wear with slight discoloration on one panel due many years that it was prominently displayed at the Geiger home.

Included with the ball are copies of Geiger's ticket stub from the game and an article that was written about his special day. One of the most significant Bears pieces ever to hit the auction block, this perfectly documented artifact was recently featured on ESPN's "Mint Condition" at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago.
