    Description

1979 John Elway Signed and Handwritten Note and Plaque Presented to High School Coach, With Granada Hills Yearbook. After his family moved to southern California in 1976 from Idaho, John Elway became the quarterback at Granada Hills High School, and played under legendary head coach Cactus Jack Neumeier, who was a noted pioneer of football's modern spread offense. Despite missing five games to injury as a senior, Elway ended his high school career with 5,711 passing yards and 49 passing touchdowns, and was named to the PARADE All America High School football team, along with fellow future NFL legends Dan Marino and Eric Dickerson.

Presented here is a plaque that Elway personally had made for coach Neumeier "In Appreciation for the Past 3 Years, 1976-78". Also included is a 4x5.5" piece of cardboard signed by John Elway, and inscribed "To the greatest coach a guy could ever play for. Good luck and thank you for everything. John Elway #11" The very rare #11 associated with his signature here was both his high school football and baseball number, prior to the ubiquitous #7 that accompanies nearly every autograph from his time at Stanford, to his 15-year, Hall of Fame career with the Denver Broncos.

Originally obtained at an estate sale for Neumeier, it also includes a 1979 Granada Hills yearbook from Elway's senior year. Moderate wear is averaged throughout this highly significant collection, which represents one of the best quarterbacks ever to take the field. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
