1972 Tony Dorsett Game Worn Hopewell High School Helmet - With Team Provenance! Tony Dorsett was always great. Like Jim Brown before him and John Elway after him, Tony D. was on every NCAA Division I and NFL team's radar while he was still a teenager in high school.

At Hopewell High School in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, he earned High School All-America honors from Scholastic Coach Magazine in 1972 after rushing for 1,238 yards. At the University of Pittsburgh, he became the NCAA's all-time leading rusher with 6,082 yards, was a three-time All-American (1974-76), and was named the 1976 Heisman Trophy winner. Taken with the second pick of the 1977 NFL Draft, he tallied 12, 739 rushing yards over a twelve-year career with the Cowboys and Broncos, was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, and was member of the 1977 Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys. In 1994, he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Offered here is Dorsett's headgear from his All-America senior season at Hopewell High School. The helmet's outer shell is painted in a deep gold hue with blue/white/blue striping running down the middle, generic double-low-hookup chinstrap, and "Riddell" in red atop a wildcat front bumper. The facemask is no longer present but remnants of the original clips still remain. The helmet's interior is complete with the original fluid-filled padding (which was just being introduced at the time) and leather jaw pads. "Dorsett" appears, large and bold, in vintage black marker at the front on the crown pad and there is a "72" time clock stamp which indicates that it was used by Tony D. during his vaunted senior season. Exhibits wondrous wear.

Provenance: Dorsett's senior year high school helmet and jersey (which is also offered in this auction) were both obtained from the wife of his high school coach who had kept them all these year's as a keepsake of the greatest player he ever coached. Letter of provenance from the wife of Dorsett's high school head coach. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
