Description
1933 Sport Kings Jim Thorpe (Football) #6 PSA EX 5. Jim Thorpe was an amazing athlete who won a pair of gold medals for the U.S. at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden, winning both the decathlon and pentathlon events. In fact, he was the first Native American to ever win an Olympic gold medal for the United States. He was a well-rounded athlete who also excelled in baseball and football as well. A standout tailback at Carlisle College, he also played professionally for a host of teams including the Canton Bulldogs and Chicago Cardinals.Offered is a 1933 Sport Kings card that captures Thorpe from his gridiron days. While saluting his overall excellence in athletics, the card specifically highlights some of his success in football. A portion of the card back reads: "His reputation as a football player is known far and wide, and during the season of 1912, he scored 198 points." This example of card #6 from the '33 Sport Kings series is found in Excellent condition with robust colors, good centering and a pretty clean reverse. Some slight wear on the corners and borders keeps this specimen from grading higher. Graded PSA EX 5.
