Description

Signed 1976 Topps Walter Payton Rookie #148 PSA NM-MT 8, PSA/DNA Auto 6 - Pop One, None Higher. Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Walter Payton could run like the wind and bounce off tacklers like few running backs before him. Nicknamed "Sweetness," he had a knack for turning countless rushes into highlight film reels. A pivotal member of the Bears 1985 Super Bowl XX championship team, Payton also established himself as the league's all-time leading rusher at the time of his retirement (1987) with 16,726 yards to his credit. His final tallies included 110 rushing touchdowns and 15 receiving TDs.

Offered is the late, great running back's 1976 Topps rookie card, which shares an up-close head shot of Payton mugging for the photographer. Card #148 from the '76 Topps series remains one of the most sought-after football rookie cards in the hobby. What's makes this RC even better is the fact that Walter signed it vertically in blue fine-point pen. The autograph, though slightly smeared, adds yet another level of greatness to this example of his coveted rookie card. Graded PSA NM-MT 8 with an autograph certified and graded PSA/DNA Auto 6. This is the only autographed example of Payton's rookie card graded NEAR-MINT-MINT with none rated higher.
