Signed 1976 Topps Walter Payton Rookie #148 BGS EX-MT 6, BAS Auto 8. Walter Payton was quite simply one of the greatest running backs to ever play in the NFL. Over 13 seasons with the Chicago Bears, the man affectionately known as "Sweetness" compiled 16,726 rushing yards and at the time of his retirement after the '87 season, was the league's all-time leading rusher. His final resume included 110 rushing touchdowns, 15 touchdown receptions, and one Super Bowl XX ring. His remarkable career was followed by countless fans in Chi-town as well as football fanatics around the country. He was rightfully inducted into the Pro in Football Hall of Fame in 1993 in his first year of eligibility, but passed away just six years later due to complications from a rare liver disease. He was only 46.The presented 1976 Topps card marks the very beginning of Payton's illustrious career. One of the most sought-after rookie cards in all of football, this mid-grade example of card #148 from the '76 Topps set would make an outstanding addition to anyone's personal collection. It provides a handsome head shot of Payton sporting his Bears uniform, but is greatly enhanced by Walter's cherished autograph across the front. He signed his name powerfully in blue ink so that it wraps perfectly around his head. Graded BGS EX-MT 6 with a certified BAS Auto 8.
