    Description

2000 SP Authentic Tom Brady #118 BGS Gem Mint 9.5 - #'d 1217/1250. Tom Brady entered the NFL with no fireworks or confetti showers. As impossible as it seems today, he was the 199th overall pick in the 2000 draft. The 2000 season opened with Brady as the #4 quarterback for the Patriots. He would complete only one of three passes for six yards. In 2001 he took the reins of the New England Patriots from an injured Drew Bledsoe and the rest, as they say, is history. Brady went on to appear in an unprecedented ten Super Bowls, taking home seven Championship rings. He has been in a dozen Pro Bowls; Voted NFL Most Valuable Player three times; NFL Passing Yards leader three times; NFL Passing Touchdowns leader four times; 2000's and 2010's NFL All-Decade Team honoree, making him the only quarterback to ever receive the honor twice, plus a myriad of other awards and accolades. At 39 with no signs of stopping anytime soon, Brady has amassed almost 6800 completions on over 10,500 attempts (64%) and thrown for 581 touchdowns, amassing over 79,000 passing yards. He is a first-time HoF inductee if there ever was one.

Graded BGS Gem Mint 9.5. The 2000 SP Authentic series offers one of his most coveted rookie card debut. This one is a limited edition with only 1,250 ever produced, we have card #1,217/1,250. The card is perfectly centered and features four razor sharp corners as one would expect from a Pristine beauty. Subgrades: Centering 10; Edges 9.5; Corners 9.5; Surface 9.

More Information: The Tom Brady Trading Card Collection,

Mark Twain once said, "History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes." That's certainly a truism for the sports collectibles marketplace, where we have seen trading cards of elite stars begin to crest when the fans who were young during those athletes' prime enter their peak earning years. Look at what is happening to Michael Jordan cards right now and you'll see echoes of what happened to Mickey Mantle a generation earlier. Thankfully, the trend for every trading card of significance has been rising since sports collectibles auctions first turned the hobby into an international marketplace, but the spikes have always seemed to come at the same distance from an athlete's retirement.

So we're left to wonder--what will the spike for Tom Brady look like? It's unlikely that it's happening right now, as the seven-time Super Bowl Champion continues to reign as the handsome face of the National Football League. We fully expect that collectors will one day look at the prices realized for the remarkable collection that follows and marvel at the bargains in much the same way that we look back on pricing for Michael Jordan rookies ten or twenty years ago with an aching sense of regret that we didn't invest everything we had.

As Brady himself has shown us, even the most outrageous records are made to be broken--just ask his personal football hero, four-time Super Bowl Champion Joe Montana. And while it's difficult to imagine that anybody but Tom himself will win eight of them, it's just as difficult to believe we're anywhere close to the top of his market as he remains in active duty. The cards on the pages that follow--the pride and joy of a single Heritage consignor--are almost certainly just beginning their climb to their eventual pricing peaks.
