1981 Topps Joe Montana #216 PSA Gem Mint 10. Bill Walsh was labeled "The Genius" by his contemporaries. With all due respect, it's hard to fail with Joe Montana as your quarterback for 15 years. The 49ers started to blossom and went to heights never before enjoyed by the organization. "Joe Cool" guided the 49s to the playoffs eleven seasons and four Super Bowls and Joe Montana would hoist the Lombardi Trophy a then record four times. Super Bowl MVP honors came with all but one of those victories. Montana's potential and tenacity showed early during his four years with Notre Dame. In the 1979 Cotton Bowl, Montana suffering from hypothermia, returned in the 3rd quarter , threw three touchdowns in the last eight minutes of the game earning the Fightin''' Irish a 35-34 victory. He was named MVP of that game. Upon retirement, his record stood at 117-47 with over 40,000 passing yards on over 5,300 attempts and 273 touchdowns. His most famous TD was "The Catch" which was a game-winning touchdown pass vs. Dallas in the 1981 NFC Championship Game.The rookie card from one of the game's greatest quarterbacks should be in every football card collection.
