Only two grade higher!
1972 Topps Roger Staubach #200 PSA Mint 9. There are few players who reflect the All-American ideal better than Roger Staubach--military man, sports hero, titan of industry in his post-NFL life. He even married his high school sweetheart. The 1963 Heisman Trophy winner played for the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated with a school-record 4,253 passing yards. Post-graduation, he would volunteer for a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam when he could have stayed stateside. His four years in the Navy made him a twenty-seven year old rookie when he joined Dallas in 1969.Like most other Hall of Fame NFL quarterbacks, Roger Staubach had an inauspicious start to his professional career. Six games, forty-seven attempts, one touchdown pass and two interceptions was all he could muster in a back-up role to Craig Morton. But Staubach's route to fame was unlike the majority of his peers. His ability to scramble earned him the name "Roger The Dodger." He was the first quarterback to be touted "Captain Comeback" for his ability to stage fourth quarter come-from-behind victories, which certainly inspired future legends like John Elway and Payton Manning. His storied career includes six Pro Bowls and two Super Bowl Championships (1972 and 1977), including an MVP Award in Super Bowl VI.
Offered is one of the finest examples of his coveted rookie card from the 1972 Topps issue. Graded PSA Mint 9, this card is one of forty-one at the Mint 9 level with just two higher. Remarkable in all regards, we find nothing to contradict the PSA assessment. A very sharp and attention-grabbing example.
