Description

1958 Topps Jim Brown Rookie #62 SGC NM-MT 8 - Only Seven Higher. Cleveland Browns Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown was a one-man wrecking crew. Standing 6' 2" tall and weighing 232 pounds, Brown was one of the most difficult ball carriers to try and bring down. Over nine NFL seasons, all with Cleveland, Brown carried the rock 2,359 times and recorded 12,312 yards on the ground. He also scored 106 rushing touchdowns and added 20 more TDs via pass receptions. Perhaps most importantly, Brown led Cleveland to the NFL title in 1964, which remains the team's last championship. His unexpected retirement announcement in July of 1966, from the set of The Dirty Dozen in London, caught football followers off guard. He was 30 years old when he made his exit from the gridiron to pursue an acting career fulltime.

Offered is Brown's highly coveted 1958 Topps rookie card. Card #62 from the '58 Topps series shows the helmetless ground gainer carrying the pigskin in uniform during Training Camp. He was well known for wearing No. 32. The presented example is found in Near Mint-Mint condition with good color, decent centering, milky white borders, four strong corners and a clean reverse. Graded SGC NM-MT 8. Of the more than 2,100 examples found in the SGC Pop Report, this is one of only 24 cards graded NEAR MINT-MINT with just seven rated higher.
