Description

Population five, none higher!

1958 Topps Jim Brown #62 Rookie PSA Mint 9. "Make sure when anyone tackles you he remembers how much it hurts," Brown once advised fellow Syracuse alumnus John Mackey. The legendary running back might not have been the most elusive rusher who ever suited up in the NFL, but he was famous for being the toughest to bring to the ground, his bone-rattling style averaging an outrageous 5.2 yards per carry. He claimed the NFL rushing title all but one of his nine seasons in the League, and his 1,863 rushing yards in 1963 remains a Cleveland Browns record, the oldest franchise rushing record of all thirty-two teams.

Brown was the sixth selection in the 1957 NFL draft, but it wasn't until 1958 that the Topps company officially welcomed the iconic running back to the league, allowing for a celebration of Brown's Rookie of the Year honor in text on verso. The offered representation mimics the theme of supremacy, one of only five from over 2,700 submissions to garner a Mint 9 rating from PSA. None have ever graded higher. Our last offering of a Brown rookie at this grade commanded $358,500 in November 2016.
