1957 Topps John Unitas Rookie #138 PSA NM-MT 8. Dumped by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the weeks following his selection in the 1955 NFL draft, Unitas might never have entered the public consciousness if not for a friend who encouraged him to tag along to a 1956 Baltimore Colts tryout. A year later he would earn the starting quarterback role and the Jim Thorpe Trophy as the NFL's Most Valuable Player.

So there's good reason for the big smile Johnny U sports at the left side of this double-profile trading card format, recalling an exciting new era upon the professional gridiron. Nearly six decades later, the colorful cardboard offers little evidence of its long existence, with sharp corners and clean surfaces to match the brilliant hues. Just a fraction of one percent of submissions have ever graded higher.
