Description

1926 Shotwell's "Red Grange" Candy Store Box. Exceedingly scarce offering may well be the only surviving specimen on earth--we've surely never encountered another. Only the most cultured early football card collectors will be familiar with the Shotwell name, which issued a set of 2x3" blank backed paper-thin cards showcasing images from the 1926 feature One Minute to Play starring football's greatest Golden Age talent. On the rare occasions that such cards have surfaced, they have sold for several hundred dollars each in inferior condition. A recent offering of a wax candy bar wrapper saw the high bid surpass $1,500. So we'll leave it to the Heritage bidders to determine the value of this remarkable 7x9x3" cardboard box colorfully celebrating the immortal Galloping Ghost. Our catalog imagery should properly illustrate that a degree of expected wear is present at each corner and edge with some seam separation, but the box remains nonetheless solid and complete and well within acceptable parameters for display. If there were ever a proper application of the term "once in a lifetime opportunity," this is it.
