Description

1969 Topps Mickey Mantle (Last Name in Yellow) #500 BVG NM 7. Hall of Fame center fielder Mickey Mantle stands among the most revered figures in baseball history, a prolific slugger whose power, poise, and championship pedigree with the New York Yankees helped define the postwar game. His 18-year career in pinstripes was a glorious one with 12 American League pennants and seven World Series titles to his name. Three AL MVP awards and a Triple Crown were the icing on the cake.

The offered 1969 Topps card featuring "The Mick" comes from the season that never was. Read on. Though he owned the era and had 20 All-Star Game appearances to his credit, the time had come for Mantle to hang up his cleats. His rather impromptu retirement announcement, made on March 1, 1969, during Spring Training in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, signaled the end of a brilliant run. So, the 1969 MLB campaign never saw Mickey suit up in pinstripes. This card (#500) represents his final contemporary regular Topps card issued. Distinguished by the yellow lettering of his surname on the card front, this Near Mint variation adds an extra layer of hobby interest to an already historic issue. Graded BVG NM 7.
