1976 Muhammad Ali Fight Worn Trunks from Ken Norton III Bout. Crafted from white satin with black trim, this "Everlast" trunks format is the style that remains Ali's primary fashion association, the design we encounter in the famous Leifer photograph of the Champion towering over a fallen Sonny Liston in Maine, a fallen George Foreman in Zaire, and in the most brutal war of his career, battling Joe Frazier in Manila.

This example saw The Greatest emerge victorious upon New York City's most celebrated athletic proving ground, claiming the rubber match against an opponent whose looping right hand routinely found its mark that early autumn day in the Bronx, but failed to stop the sport's most unbreakable practitioner. Sweat staining and minor soiling from decades of storage are apparent upon close inspection, and all details perfectly match fight film and photography. "Made Expressly for Muhammad Ali" text appears at lower edge of the "Everlast" center waist band label, a format available only to the man himself.

The trunks entered the collecting hobby when leading boxing collector Steve Jackson acquired them from Wali "Blood" Muhammad, a key member of Ali's training staff and entourage. Two letters of provenance supply ironclad assurance of authenticity. The first pictures Wali Muhammad posing with the trunks, and is signed by both Muhammad and Jackson. The second is a notarized letter of provenance from Jackson alone. Letter of provenance from Wali Muhammad & Steve Jackson. Notarized letter of provenance from Steve Jackson. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
