The Finest Known Example in The Hobby!

1948 Leaf Rocky Graziano #50 PSA EX-MT+ 6.5 - Pop One, None Higher! Like the fabled Wagner and Plank of the T206 issue, the Leaf Graziano shares both supreme rarity and an uncertain tale of the cause. We most commonly hear that the Old Dutchman wanted no part of marketing tobacco to children, and that Gettysburg Eddie was the random, unfortunate victim of a broken printing plate.

For Rocky Graziano, reigning Middleweight Champion of the World at the time of Leaf's debut, the popular opinion for scarcity is the most mundane--money. It is widely believed that this scrappy product of Manhattan's Alphabet City put the kibosh on his number fifty card due to dissatisfaction with the payday for his participation, leaving a gap unfilled in virtually every set, even those atop the PSA registry. We suspect that Graziano cards never actually made it into retail markets, and that the few surviving examples--most estimate the full census in the single digits--went out the back door of the Leaf factory.

Graded PSA EX-MT+ 6.5. Usually supremely endangered species render condition concerns moot. "Buy the card, not the holder" is the mantra of most hobbyists. Here, it just doesn't matter why you buy this card. If wanting the highest graded example in the hobby is your goal? Achieved. If you want a gorgeous card with phenomenal colors and so close to perfect centering where any points rendered are for minor corner wear. This issue is plagued by registration problems, but the subject card hits the mark perfectly. This is one of the very rarest "regular issue" cards of the post-war era, an entry ticket to a most exclusive collecting society.
