Description

1975 Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier "A Thrilla in Manila" On-Site Ticket Stub, PSA Poor 1 (MK). Tickets and programs from Ali's two great foreign bouts, Zaire's "Rumble in the Jungle" and the Philippines' "A Thrilla in Manila" are all but non-existent in the hobby, as very few made the journey back across the ocean to American shores. This oversized ticket stub (7x4.25") from the brutal bout with Frazier in the Philippines should be considered among the scarcest of Ali offerings.

In a display of brutal punishment and unmatched toughness and heart more suited for a Rocky flick than an actual Heavyweight Championship bout, these two legends pummeled each other for fourteen rounds before trainer Eddie Futch refused to allow Frazier to answer the bell for the fifteenth and final round, fearing for his boxer's life. Ali later commented that it was the closest he too had ever come to death in the ring, declaring Frazier as the second greatest fighter in boxing history.

While solely by virtue of the bout's status as one of boxing's most important and dramatic, this ticket should be viewed as a genuine treasure. But when pairing this fact with the overwhelming scarcity of the piece, it gains the status of one of the most significant post-war artifacts of the sweet science. Pop two with twelve superior. Encapsulated by PSA, Poor 1 (MK).
