Mid to Late 1970's Muhammad Ali Training Worn Trunks. Any true Ali fan would recognize this white satin with black trim styling from one hundred yards away, the same look the iconic pugilist sported in the Rumble and the Thrilla. The presented pair dates to the early 1980's when the career of the greatest Heavyweight of all was winding to a close. Wear is light but clearly evident, indicative of the generous Champ's habit of giving away his gear to fans with great regularity.

The garment authenticates itself--the special "Everlast" format with the "Made Expressly for Muhammad Ali" text on the central tag was available only to the Greatest himself. Further assurance is provided by leading boxing collectibles expert Craig Hamilton, who concludes, "The trunks date to the mid to late 1970's, and were likely used at Ali's training camp in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania in preparation for fights, possibly including Leon Spinks." Some epoxy residue at interior waistband relates to a framed display, but this is invisible from exterior. LOA from Craig Hamilton. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
