Description

Circa 1860 Tom Sayers Lithograph. Heroic portrait of "Tom Sayers, Champion of England" finds the stocky pugilist assuming a fighting stance against a bucolic British countryside, much like that which greeted him upon his meeting with the American John Heenan in 1860. In fact, that bout is listed as the last in the wide lower margin recounting his ring battles, noting "Fought J.C. Heenan, 42 Rounds and drawn Apr. 17, 1860." The lithograph measures 16x20" in size with general age toning and some scattered foxing the main condition issue, and minor edge chipping remaining well clear of the central focus.
