Description

1990's Mike Tyson Fight Worn Boxing Gloves. A detailed letter of examination by leading boxing memorabilia expert Craig Hamilton conveys that this pair of "Everlast" gloves derives from the personal collection of John Horner, who managed Tyson from 1989 through his second bout with Evander Holyfield in 1997. Hamilton tells us that the gloves are correct in format for several of Tyson's bouts during this period (with the exception of both Holyfield fights), but that a definitive attribution to any specific fight is impossible.

Hamilton's letter provides the reasons for his confidence in authenticity (beyond the strong provenance of its source) by noting that the gloves are the correct brand and size (10 ounces) for Tyson, and that the "Tyson #1" markings on each label would indicate that these were the gloves selected for use in the fight (while back-up gloves would be marked "#2.") Even more importantly, perspiration staining inside the gloves and light stripping of the skin of the leather at the wrist is consistent with removal of tape, which would only be utilized for fight gloves and never in the gym.

Hamilton concludes his letter, "It is my opinion these boxing gloves were worn in a professional fight of Mike Tyson sometime likely in the 1990's, but not in his fights with Evander Holyfield." LOA from Craig Hamilton.
