Description

1988 Muhammad Ali Photographic Biography Signed 71 Times. It's the most spectacular Ali signed item we've ever encountered, very possibly the best one on Earth. Wilfrid Sheed's heavily illustrated biography, entitled simply "Muhammad Ali," is autographed over seventy times by the boxing legend, those signatures often enhanced by notations showcasing Ali's legendary wit. The famous photo of Ali standing over Liston in their 1965 rematch is notated "Get up Chump." A couple photos of him as a boy are signed "Cassius Clay." In a shot of Ali sitting with Howard Cosell, he playfully draws a halo and stars around the sportscaster's head as if he were drunk or dazed. He even signs a two-page spread of his own stunning knockdown in his first loss in the Fight of the Century against Frazier.

The autographs were applied for a close friend during a long autograph session in 1988, before the devastating effects of Parkinson's began to affect his handwriting. With Ali signed photos routinely selling in excess of $500, the breakdown value of this lot is enormous, though it would be a shame to dismantle such a unique volume. Hardcover book is in pristine condition, housed in a clamshell case for protection. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
