Description

1987 Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs. Sugar Ray Leonard Signed Contracts Lot of 2. These two legal-sized documents from the "Nevada Athletic Commission" are dated just a week before the event, so we'd have to assume that these covenants relate to financial compensation only rather than the agreement to enter into combat. Hagler consents to a $12 million payday and applies his full, nickname-inclusive signature to his page at left of the framed display. Leonard, as challenger for the WBC and The Ring Magazine middleweight titles, agrees to $11 million, and likewise utilizes his nickname-inclusive signature. Fight promoter Mel Greb signs both.

Leonard, of course, would win by controversial split-decision, and then retire for the third of five times, leaving Hagler's deep desire for a rematch unanswered. Hagler would finally announce he was tired of waiting for Leonard and himself retire, a month before Leonard announced his own return. This bout also proved to be the last with Angelo Dundee in Leonard's corner, the legendary trainer insulted by the $150,000 cut of Leonard's purse. The contracts are framed with an official program to final dimensions of 21.5x35". Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
