Description
1985 Marvelous Marvin Hagler Gloves Worn in Training for Historic Bout with Thomas Hearns. It was one of the most anticipated bouts of the post-war era, a World Middleweight Championship match between undisputed Champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler and World Junior Middleweight Champ Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns. Though the fight lasted less than three full rounds, the thrilling back-and-forth action led The Ring magazine to label the contest the fight of the year for 1985, declaring it, "the most electrifying eight minutes ever."While it was Hearns who was hailed as one of the hardest punchers of all time, Hagler was the man to deliver the knockout blow, and this remarkable pair of gloves provides some insight into Marvelous Marvin's power regimen. Each "Tuf-Wear" glove tips the scales at over twenty ounces and shows long, sweaty wear at the heavy bag (somebody would be killed if these were used for sparring!).
The gloves are extensively inscribed and signed by Hagler to legendary fight promoter and sportswriter Bob Halloran, a prominent figure on the Las Vegas boxing scene since the days of Muhammad Ali. The left reads, "To Bob, My Good Friend, Many Thanks, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Champ & Friend 87." The right: "Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Champ & Friend 1987." Faded marker just above each wrist reads, "MMH." Also here is a funny 8x10" photo of the pair together, inscribed, "To Bob Halloran, 'Keep smiling,' your friend & Champion always 'Wow' what a trip, Thanks, World Champ Marvelous Marvin Hagler." Finally, we have a ticket stub to the bout, VG-EX. A letter from Halloran will attest to the Hearns training provenance. Letter of provenance from Bob Halloran. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
