Description

1980 Roberto Duran vs. Sugar Ray Leonard Original Artwork by LeRoy Neiman. While the greatest sports artist in American history turned his skillful palette toward the full spectrum of athletic competition, he's arguably best known for his boxing works, his bold expressionist creations often finding a home on official programs for Championship bouts. In a rare turning of the tables, the program serves as Neiman's inspiration here, the circular format for the cover image of a contest known to history as the "No Mas Fight" mimicked in skillful pastel. Neiman's distinctive syle is in full effect here, but there is a careful realism in this work that sets it apart, a departure from the norm that should intrigue experienced Neiman collectors. The work measures six inches in diameter, and is matted and framed to nine and a half inches square. Also here is a framed cover of the program.
