Defeated by Sugar Ray Leonard in the Gold Medal match

1976 Montreal Olympics Light Welterweight Boxing Silver Medal Won by Andrés Aldama. The star Cuban fighter was dominant in the lead-up to the Gold Medal match, scoring knockouts over Hungarian Jozsef Nagy and Bulgarian Vladimir Kolev, but he had the misfortune of meeting one of the sport's all-time greats in the finale, dropping a five to nothing result to American legend-in-the-making Sugar Ray Leonard. Presented is Aldama's consolation prize for that defeat, the Silver Medal he was awarded on the podium beside the future Hall of Famer.

The shimmering Silver features a laurel-wreathed Victory figure on the obverse, the logo for the Montreal Games on obverse, and the French word "Boxe" engraved on the edge. Ribbon and clasp have been removed for display, and the medal exhibits a small degree of handling wear that does nothing to dampen the enormous historical appeal. Aldama would bounce back to claim the Gold in the Moscow Olympics four years later, and that medal is likewise presented within this Signature Auction.
