Description

1974 Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman Fight Poster. In one of the most anticipated fights of the 1970's, Heavyweight Champion George Foreman defended his title against the previously dethroned Muhammad Ali in Zaire in 1974. Things didn't go Foreman's way from the beginning, as a cut during training pushed the fight back a month and caused him to be unable to box during training. Foreman also claimed Angelo Dundee loosened the ropes in the ring, which has been backed up by Norman Mailer, and even accused his trainer of drugging him in the hotel. Regardless, it was Ali's night as he won by knockout in the eighth round, giving Foreman his first professional loss.

The offered poster is an incredibly rare memento of the historic battle, entitled "From Slaveship to Championship" with images of Ali, Foreman, Don King and African-American slaves pictured in the artwork. Measuring 26.5x39.5" in the frame, the poster has some writing on the bottom that does not distract from the central image. The framing paper on the verso has been torn but does not affect the poster itself.
