Description

1974 Ali vs. Foreman "Rumble in the Jungle" Program. On the morning of October 30, 1974, George Foreman, then a 24-year old undefeated fighter, held every significant Heavyweight boxing belt in the world. He was a ferocious puncher with a nasty attitude, who knocked out both Ken Norton and Joe Frazier - Muhammad Ali's fiercest opponents - in only two rounds. Ali was 32, past his prime, and looking for one more title shot. Way down in the middle of Africa, in the country of Zaire, the match was set up by a promoter named Don King. Ali fought Foreman early, and then consistently slumped into the ropes allowing Foreman to pound away. While sitting in his rope-a-dope strategy, Ali was deflecting most of the big blows, and taunting Foreman at every opportunity. By the middle of the fight the younger Foreman was wiped out, and when Ali connected with a couple combinations in the 8th round, the champion was knocked to the canvas, and the fight was stopped by the referee. This program is from that electric fight, dubbed as one of the greatest sporting events of the 20th Century. Light wear exhibited throughout with some moderate creasing on the spine. An historic program due to Ali winning the Heavyweight title for the third time, the first loss for undisputed champion George Foreman and the first major fight promoted by Don King. The centerfold remains unscored, but there are various pencil notations throughout the latter pages answering various trivia questions in the program. Program originates from a New York-based closed circuit broadcast of the championship brawl.
