1973 Muhammad Ali Fight Worn & Signed Shoes from Ken Norton I Bout--The Broken Jaw Fight! We have been trained to consider The Thrilla in Manila as Muhammad Ali's greatest exhibition of durability and will, but the stunning upset of the five-to-one favorite at the punishing hands of Ken Norton displayed a similar brand of fortitude. The Greatest was never knocked off his feet by the powerful underdog, but he was badly injured early in the bout, stating after the final bell, "Imagine you have your jaw broken and have to fight ten more rounds."

As with his loss to Joe Frazier, Ali would even the score with Norton in the highly-anticipated rematch, and then claim the rubber match and the series in the pair's third and final meeting, but "The Broken Jaw" fight remains the most celebrated of the three Ali-Norton tilts. Though the beloved boxing icon would pay a heavy physical toll for his bravery as the years passed, one can't help but marvel at the extraordinary courage and resilience of The Greatest, both inside the ring and out.

Presented are the size thirteen boots that remained firmly planted to the canvas of the Sports Arena in San Diego, California on March 31, 1973 after blows that would have left nearly any other man toes up. They are Ali's most recognizable style of footwear, identical in design to those he sported in many other battles, including those worn in the fabled Thrilla in Manila, which Heritage auctioned in July 2015 for $119,500.

The distinctive format features twenty rows of eyelets per shoe and circular red, white and blue "Everlast" patches at each exterior upper ankle. Solid, sweaty wear is clearly evident. Each shoe is autographed twice, with the signatures at exterior ankle enhanced with a notation reading, "Greatest of All Time, 7-5-90."

A Christie's auction tag still attached to the left boot corresponds with lot 209 of the 1997 sale of the collection of famed hobbyist Ron Paloger, who had acquired these shoes directly from Ali's trainer and friend Drew "Bundini" Brown. LOA from Craig Hamilton. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph). Full LOA from SGC Authentic (autograph).
