Description
1972 Joe Frazier Fight Worn Robe from Ron Stander Bout.UPDATE: Letter of provenance from Troy Kinunen.
The contender lived up to his surname despite a brutal assault by the champion, but after four rounds his face was a bloody mess and the referee wisely determined that there was no need to continue. It was the twenty-ninth of Frazier's thirty-seven professional bouts, and he'd bat .500 for the remainder of his career due to twin losses at the gloved hands of both Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
This is the robe worn into the ring by Frazier for his last successful title defense, a perfect match to film footage featuring a gorgeous chenille design on the red cotton exterior and "Everlast" tagging at the sweat-stained white satin interior. Thigh-length tailoring. The color scheme cannot fail to remind Ali experts of the style which he wore to meet Frazier in their first epic battle in 1971, a robe likewise on offer in this special auction. LOA from Craig Hamilton. Letter of provenance from Troy Kinunen. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
