Description

1952 Tommy Burns Signed Display. "I will defend my title against all comers, none barred. By this I mean white, black, Mexican, Indian, or any other nationality. I propose to be the champion of the world, not the white, or the Canadian, or the American. If I am not the best man in the heavyweight division, I don't want the title." Burns' greatest legacy is his loss to Jack Johnson in 1908, and he shows his fine character over four decades later in a handwritten note, a rather "new age-y" message to a fan that we can help others by "radiating our feelings and thoughts through the cosmic consciousness." Message appears to be written on an unlined 3x5" index card. All ink 9/10 or better. Framed display (all contents modern reproductions except for small picture postcard and the handwritten note) measures 26x30". Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
