Description

1940's Joe Louis Fight Worn Trunks. Appropriately regal purple satin trunks were once owned and operated by the great Brown Bomber, the top-ranked puncher of all time according to the 2003 list compiled by the sport's leading publication, Ring Magazine. The trunks derive from the personal collection of Louis' head trainer Mannie Seamon, and were sold as part of the Mannie Seamon collection by Guernsey's as Lot A142 on April 29, 1990. The blue-trimmed trunks feature the custom "Made Expressly for Joe Louis" print on the "Everlast" manufacturer's label upon the waistband, and match exactly the style worn by Louis in bouts versus Johnny Paycheck, Red Burman, Lee Savold and Jersey Joe Walcott (1948), though the lack of color film or photography from those fights makes precise identification impossible. Definite wear is evident, and the high quality satin construction assures that these are no mere training trunks. Arguably one of the top ten sportsmen of the twentieth century for both his athletic brilliance and cultural relevance, Louis remains one of the most highly prized figures in the collecting community. These trunks represent one of the most exciting offerings from his career to reach the auction block in recent memory. LOA from JO Sports, Inc.
