1936 Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling Full Ticket PSA Authentic. Two of the most important boxing matches in history were fought between the "Brown Bomber," Joe Louis, and Germany's Max Schmeling. In the first bout in 1936, Louis was undefeated with twenty-three wins and it was believed that this match-up with Schmeling would be a pre-cursor to a shot at the title. The two men came from radically different backgrounds and were seen to represent America versus the Nazi's, an African-American versus racial intolerance, and so on. Louis not only represented the dreams of African-Americans in the 1930's, but also rose to the ranks of becoming a national hero to all Americans. Schmeling, perhaps unfairly, was seen as representing the evil of the Nazi party. In reality, his manager was Jewish and Schmeling distanced himself from the Nazi's and actually saved the lives of a couple young Jewish boys being chased by the gestapo.

Unfortunately, Louis was viewed as the easy victor and subsequently took it easy in training camp. Underrating Schmeling, just thirty years old and still strong, proved to be a costly mistake. The German came out with jab after jab, followed by a right cross, and Louis had no answer for the style. In the twelfth round, Louis fell to the canvas and was counted out, his only knockout until Rocky Marciano fifteen years later.

The offered full ticket is a stunning beauty, rarely seen in full form. Nicely centered with just slightly rounded corners holding it to an apparent VG-EX, this is an excellent memento of this historic fight. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Authentic.
