1899 Robert Fitzsimmons Cabinet Photograph. "Ruby Robert," the New Zealand blacksmith, was one of the most talented fighters that ever laced a pair of gloves. A terrific puncher with either hand, Fitzsimmons was also agile and could strike suddenly from different angles. Although a natural middleweight, Fitzsimmons often fought much larger men. At the time this photograph was taken, Fitz was in his prime, preparing to fight James J. Jeffries for the heavyweight championship. At the time of the fight, Fitzsimmons weighed in at 167 pounds, while Jeffries tipped the scales at 206! A terrific battle ensued with a battered and bloody Jeffries winning by a knockout in the eleventh. This cabinet photo measures 4.25x6.5". There is slight edge wear and a trivial amount of scuffing around the borders, otherwise this card is in wonderful condition.
