    1892 James J. Corbett Cabinet Photograph Referencing His Upcoming Bout with John L. Sullivan. Glorious, oversized Victorian-era cabinet photograph depicts the future champion posing shirtless with black pants leading up to his much anticipated bout with the great heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan. Surrounding the image of Corbett. is a sumptuous floral arrangement with the words "Good Luck" at the top, a nod to his upcoming title bout. The studio which produced this remarkable piece is credited at the bottom left: "Elite, 838 Market St., San Francisco, Cal." Corbett was born in San Francisco and had a lifelong association with his birth city. Gentleman Jim went on to win the fight with Sullivan which made him the new heavyweight champion of the world. It was undoubtedly the pinnacle of his celebrated career, which makes this piece even more special. Double-matted and framed 26x30", the visible portion of the photograph is approximately 16x21" with minor defects.
