    Description

1890's Joseph Wood Studios "Peddler Palmer" Imperial Cabinet Photo. Thomas "Peddler" Palmer was an English boxer who was the world bantamweight champion from 1895-1899. Boxing was in his blood as took the same pugilist path as his father did, even mom was reported to have been a fighter in her own right. He lost the British bantamweight title in November 1900 to Harry Ware. Offered is a beautiful and very rare Imperial cabinet photo of the young scrapper. The image is credited to J. Wood studios with an 1896 copyright date right in the image. The 7x9" full-figure portrait has faded some but has just very slight surface mishaps of note. The 10-3/4x13-1/4' card mount has some staining and wear with "Palmer Peddler" written in pencil plus three other numerical notations. The top border shows three quarter size areas of paper adhered to the surface but no evident surface loss. Toning from previous display is present but does little to detract from the visual enjoyment. A very large sized cabinet photo that would have been quite costly in the 1890's.
