    Description

1880's Jem Smith Rare Boxing Silk. A limited original production run and delicate construction has served to make boxing silks such as this one a tremendously rare commodity in the modern collecting hobby, and this rare specimen celebrating one of the greatest heavyweight champions of England of the 19th century England is a breed apart. It is believed that silks such as this were sold at boxing venues, a form of early souvenir. A portrait of the bare-knuckle champ holds the center of the design, with two colorful crossed flags above him, "Jem Smith Champion Of England" below, and other ornate design elements forming a rather impressive frame around him. The silk measures 35x33" in size with light staining and small small holes, presenting wonderfully.
