    Description

1860 Heenan vs. Sayers Woodcut from Harper's Weekly. The finest artwork we've encountered inspired by this most famous international boxing competition of the twentieth century. This two-page spread from Harper's Weekly is a marvelous study of the action and the crowd for this illegal bout in the English countryside, titled at the bottom "Bloody, Brutal and Blackguard Prize-Fight in England, Between Heenan and Sayers, on April 17, 1860." Some vintage archival repair of the separated center fold is evident as is some chipping along the edges, but the 16x22" image presents as well as could be expected for its century and a half of existence.
