    Description

Circa 1917 John L. Sullivan Signed 20th Century Imperial Cabinet Photograph. Boxing great John L. Sullivan, who is credited as being both the last bare-knuckle heavyweight champion as well as the first gloved heavyweight champion, was also the first American athlete to exceed one million dollars in earnings.

This 20th century cabinet photograph ("White Artist...Boston, Mass" stamp) pictures a mature Boston Strong Boy in the twilight of his life. Inscribed and signed on mat "Compliments of John L. Sullivan to Eleanor Early" in 6/10 fountain pen. Early was a daring young journalist and adventurer who would go on many best selling books and travel the globe, which was quite unusual for a woman of that era. Measures 7.5x11" with some wear, including missing right corner, pinholes and some border wear. Still a great photo, rare signature, and inscription linking two American originals. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
