    Description

1970 Sugar Ray Robinson Boxing Application Eye Exam. Though the five-time Middleweight Champ exited the ring for the final time in 1965, telling his coach George Gainford "No beefs, George. Sometimes we got the best of it in the past," it seems that Sugar Ray later almost made the same mistake so often seen in the fight game by ignoring the lessons of Father Time. This single page from a Los Angeles opthalmologist is part of an application for a Boxer's license, listing Robinson's age as "49." The doctor notes that there are no problems, remarking "Healthy eyes," and he signs at bottom, along with Sugar Ray himself. Thankfully Robinson's return to the ring never materialized. The page remains in perfect condition, an interesting artifact from one of the greatest careers in boxing. Measures 8.5x11" in size. LOA from Craig Hamilton / JO Sports. Additional LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
