1960 Intercity Golden Gloves Team Signed Photograph with Cassius Clay. 1960 was a banner year for young and exuberant Cassius Marcellus Clay. In that calendar year he ruled on all fronts, winning the National AAU light heavyweight championship, the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions heavyweight championship, the Intercity Golden Gloves heavyweight championship, the U.S. Olympic Trials light heavyweight championship, the Rome Olympics light heavyweight gold medal, and his first two professional bouts.

An eighteen-year-old Cassius Clay is seen seated in the front row, smiling and confident, of this 1960 Intercity Golden Gloves team image (8x10"). The verso is signed by approximately twenty team members, including Clay, trainer Pop Howard, head coach Freddie Caserio, Don Eddington, Bill Nielson, Jeff Davis, and Brian O'Shea. The autographs are all signed in ink and average NM in strength. The photo exhibits one chipped corner, on corner fold, and some surface creases but Clay appears clear and prominent in image and autograph formats. Due to the unusual signing format, the authentication services have declined to opine on Clay's signature, but we have the utmost confidence that the piece is genuine, and it is accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from our consignor and Clay teammate Melchor Gonzales, who appears in this image in the second row, fifth from the right. Letter of provenance from Melchor Gonzales.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
