1899 John L. Sullivan Handwritten Letter. Straight from the battering ram that was this bare knuckle Champ's right hand comes this note to a creditor penned on Sullivan's restaurant letterhead. Taking on an apologetic tone, the Boston Strong Boy writes, "Dec. 29th, 1899. Frank McElroy, Esq., My dear sir, I will send you a check the 2nd of the month as I get paid off that day so be good until then. I appreciate past favors and I want you to feel that way. I am not one that forgets. If things had been running my way you never would have to waited as long as you have. Trusting you are well, believe me, Yours Truly, John L. Sullivan." Also included is the original mailing envelope, addressed entirely in Sullivan's hand and postmarked with the same date as the letter. Very, very slight separation at a few junctures of the original mailing folds are the only condition considerations, leaving the piece in splendid shape for display. LOA from PSA/DNA.
