1886 Jake Kilrain Signed Handwritten Letter With Boxing Content. On 4.5x7" (folded) note paper, this Jake Kilrain handwritten letter dates from his prime boxing days and includes boxing content. Kilrain writes to a friend about his son, who is bored with sparring, and also mentions an eight round spar he has with "O'Day" coming up. He describes O'Day as a "very well built man and quite a fighter." Complaining about the local's unwillingness to pay for a show, he hopes to go to Chicago to box Mitchell, Burk, Sullivan or Paddy Ryan, for a shot at a bigger purse.

Signed as "John Kilrain," the signature rates in 6/10 quality. The exposed two sides of the letter have faded, but are readable, while the interior pages are very bold. Toning is evident on the outer pages but other than one fold line, the paper is free of creases or tears. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
