1974 Muhammad Ali Rumble in the Jungle Robe. 1974 Muhammad Ali Rumble in the Jungle Robe. The Rumble in the Jungle proved that Muhammad Ali hadn't lost a step. Facing a stiff challenge in champion George Foreman, Ali ended the contest in the eighth round with a knockout of his heavily-favored foe. This massive 88x52.5" robe was issued around the time of the fight and made by local vendors in Zaire. Zaire was a major textile center in 1974. The ability to make custom fabrics were abundant in Zaire because of so many small textile manufactures. Many local vendors produced these to sell to the tourist who came to the fight. This one survived from Zaire. Don king is picture wearing a local made Rumble in the Jungle red robe in ring prior to the Zaire fight and in various pre-fight press conferences. The Fabric has a motif of Ali standing over a fallen fighter ("I am the greatest" referenced) is featured on the ends. Regular age wear visible.
